Burrowgate


Burrowgate, originally Burghgate, is one of the oldest streets in Penrith, it was also a division (administrative area) of the old town. Penrith's original market cross (Burrowgate Cross), once stood in the middle of the triangular area of the street. In earlier times it was the site of the horse market. 

BURROWGATE, a division, in the parish and union of Penrith, Leath ward, E. division of Cumberland; containing 712 inhabitants.
