Biggar Bank Pavilion (1883 - 1975)

The Pavilion at Biggar Bank on Walney Island was opened by John Fell, Mayor of the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness, in 1883. It was part of a larger scheme to open up Biggar Bank and develop it as a recreation area for the growng population of Barrow. The building was located by the beach, a short distance south-west of the Castle House Hotel, and had a distinctive row of 3 round portal windows. The Pavilion was eventially demolished in c.1975. The stone commemorating the opening of the Pavilion in 1883 is now located in the Roundhouse, which was built to replace the old Pavilion.
