Barnard Castle Railway Station (closed 1965)

The railway station in Barnard Castle was opened in 1862 by the South Durham & Lancashire Union Railway, replacing an earlier station of 1856. The station was closed in 1965 as part of the "Beeching Cuts" railway closures. The station was demolished (the site later a Glaxo works and car park); the former stationmaster's house is still extant on Montalbo Road.[1]
