Anchor Hotel, Haydon Bridge

Anchor Hotel is located on John Martin Street, next to the old bridge in Haydon Bridge. The building dates from the 18th century, with later alterations. It is a former coaching inn, conveniently located near midway between Newcastle and Carlisle. However, the earliest reference to an inn here was in 1422.[1] The rear wing of the hotel was the former Rent House for the Greenwich commissioners.[2] The Anchor Hotel is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List of England.
