- 19th July 2021 - what some called "Freedom Day", when most Covid-19 pandemic-related legal restrictions were lifted in England.
In Northern England:
- 19th April 2021 - Bowburn Primary School new building opens
- 9th July 2021: Dunelm House (Students' Union building at Durham) added to National Heritage List for England, following campaign to save it.
- 12th September: the 40th Great North Run held (cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic). 57,000 runners took part in 'GNR40'.
- 27th November 2021: Storm Arwen hits Scotalnd and the North East of England coast
