  • 1st April 1986: Tyne and Wear County Council was abolished.
  • 22nd April, 1986: first preview opening of the Metro Centre shopping complex near Dunston.
  • July 1986: production of the Bluebird car begins at the new Nissan factory in Sunderland.
  • 8th Sept 1986: official opening of the Nissan car factory by Margaret Thatcher
  • November 1986: Durham Cathedral & Castle designated a World Heritage Site
  • 1986: Beamish is named British Museum of the Year

Co-Curate is a project which brings together online collections, museums, universities, schools and community groups to make and re-make stories and images from North East England and Cumbria.
