In Northern England:

  • 1963: Demolition of the Royal Arcade in Newcastle to make way for the Central Motorway and Swan House.
  • 1963: Middlesbrough Tower built for Constantine Technical College (now a key building of Teesside University).
  • 1st August 1963: Newcastle University created, which had formely been King's College, University of Durham.
  • 7th December 1963: opening of new buildings for Whitley Bay and Monkseaton Grammar School (now Whitley Bay High School)
