War Memorial, Brunswick Village

The war memorial in Brunswick Village is located on Darrell Street, by St Cuthbert's Church. The Celtic cross was originally erected in front of the Primary School, also on Darrell Street, where it was unveiled on the 12th of March 1921 by Mr RS Barrett (of the Seaton Burn Coal Company, owners of Dinnington Colliery since 1899) and dedicated by Reverend JE Harland.[1] The memorial commemorates 52 local servicemen who lost their lives during the First World War. Later, the names of 3 local servicemen who fell in the Second World War were also added to the memorial. Brunswick Village War Memorial is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
