Clock Tower War Memorial
The Clock Tower War Memorial in Amble was designed by Will Burton and unveiled on th 9th May 1925, in dedication to the men of amble lost in the First World War.[1] Inscribed: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF AMBLE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918" and "THE SITE FOR THIS MEMORIAL WAS GIVEN BY E.M. LAWSON-SMITH ESQ IN MEMORY OF HIS TWO SONS WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR". A further plaque was later added to the memorial dedicated to those lost in the Second World War. In the 1970s the Radcliffe War Memorial was relocated from Radcliff near to the Clock Tower in Amble. Both war memorials are Grade II listed. In 2008 the War Memorials Trust provided a grant of £6,239 to repair and restore the Clock Tower War Memorial.[2]
