Town Moor Boundary Stone, Poneland Road, Fenham

There is an old Town Moor Boundary Stone, next to the north gatepier of Millmount (house) on Poneland Road in Fenham, Newcastle - near Nun's Moor and Newcastle United Golf Club. The original boundary stone dates from the 18th century. The boundry stone displays the Arms of Newcastle (3 castles). The boundary stone was probably erected after the longstanding legal dispute between the freemen and the mayor and burgesses concerning grazing rights and ownership of the Town Moor. This culminated in an Act of Parliament (14th George III., Cap. 105), passed in 1774, Confirming to Resident Freemen of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Their Widows, Their Full Right & Benefit to the Herbage of the Town Moor, Castle Leazes, & Nun's Moor. The boundary stone is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. A photograph of the weathered boundary stone, taken in 2001 (Historic England), looks of similar size and shape as the Town Wall bountry stone in Jesmond. However, a photograph of this boundry stone in Fenham, taken in 2019 (Geograph), looks very different, suggesting that the stone has been replaced or restored. It's inset is similar to the boundary stone at Barras Bridge, which was originally sited at the junction of Richardson Road and Cross Market Street.
