Sulphur Spring Fountain, Gilsland Spa
This fountain on a riverside path at Gilsland Spa channels sulpherous water from a natural spring. The sping water was reputed to have healing properties and led to the development of Gilsland Spa in the 18th and 19th centuries. The fountain is by the River Irthing and close to the Grisland Hall hotel (known as 'Spa Hotel' in the 1860s). The fountain was rebuilt in 1964.
