Staward Manor
Staward Manor (Low Staward) is a large house, set back from the A686 road, about 7½ miles west of Hexham. It is situated by Dewey Syke, which joins the nearby Harsondale Burn. The house was originally two adjacent bastles dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, which were later altered and enlarged. A left rear wing was added in the 18th century and the right wing built and main block enlarged and remodelled 1835-1840. A blocked bastle door between has flattened Tudor-arched lintel with panel inscribed "G & C B, 1668" (George and Cecila Bacon).[1] Staward Manor is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
