St Peter's Basin
St Peter's is a neighbourhood by the River Tyne in Newcastle, located about 1½ mile east of the City Centre, close to Byker and Walker. As well as it's residential accomodation, the neighbourhood has St. Peter's Marina at it's core.
"At the turn of the twentieth century an earlier buoyant village existed here known as St. Peter's on Tyne. Whilst during the seventeenth century the neighbourhood was known as The Velvet City, reflective of the neighbourhood's wealthy velvet-clad merchants and residents. Today, on the St. Peter's Wharf quay of the Marina are the offices of award-winning creative, digital, marketing, engineering and commercial businesses with clients from across the world. St. Peter's pub The Merchants' Tavern is also to be found there. St. Peter's Marina was opened by Princess Diana in April 1991."
