St Aidan's Church, Fourstones
St Aidan’s Church in Fourstones is a distinctive wooden building in the centre of the village. It was constructed in 1892 for a cost of £350, at the expense of the Rev. George Cruddas. The pre-fabricated wooden Mission Church kit was assembled in a matter of just a few weeks, providing a capacity of 60 to 70. At that time, the population of Fourstones had grown in association with it's colliery and lime works, quarries, paper mill and railway. It was effectively a chapel of ease, built to save the people of Fourstones from the trek to and from the Parish Church in Warden.
