The war memorial in Spennymoor was unveiled on the 15th of October 1922 by J.H.B. Forster (Managing Director of Weardale Steel, Coal & Coke Co) and dedicated by Canon Wykes (Vicar of St. Andrew’s Church). It was dedicated to 360 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War (1914-18). The memorial was built by E.C. Kenmir for Spennymoor Urban District Council on a site donated by Weardale Steel, Coal & Coke Co.
