Former Shades Hotel, Church Street

The former Shades Hotel is located on Church Street, on the junction with Lynn Street in Hartlepool. It opened in 1856, in what was at that time West Hartlepool. It was refaced with ornate glazed tiles in c1900. Shades Hotel closed in 1970 and reopened as the New Shades in 1971. The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England and is in the Church Street Conservation Area. Sadly, it closed and the building has been disused for many years (at Sep 2022).
