Scotch Street

Scotch Street is one of the main shopping streets in Carlisle. The northern end of the street begins at the junction of Rickergate, Warwick Street and Drovers Lane. From the junction with West Tower Street onwards, Scotch Street is pedestrianised, running south to the Market Place, where the road continues on as English Street. There is an entrance to the Market Hall on Scotch Street.  In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the old lanes on Scotch Street were demolished to make way for the New Lanes shopping development; the new shop fronts were designed to resemble the ones they replaced, preserving the street’s historical character.
