Roa Island House

Roa Island House is located on Foulney Street on Roa Island, next door to the Bosuns Locker cafe. The house was originally built for the Furness industrialist H.W Schneider as a holiday residence. Known as Villa Marina, it later served as a Marine Fisheries Laboratory up to June 1928. The house was commandeered  by the military during the Second World War. On the lawn are seven cannon pointing out to sea. In more recent times the Victorian building has been a bed and breakfast, now a self-catering holiday let. The house is located at the south of the Island, its observation tower has views across the island; the garden to the rear of the house have views towards Piel Island and of the Lifeboat Station.
