My house (and St Michael's and All Angels Church!)

  • Description

"The church wall has been hit by lorries turning left at this junction many times! The houses in the background (Town Head) were mostly shops at the turn of the century, as were those on Main Street behind the photographer - now just David Scott's Bootle Stores / PO and William Bewley's wonderfully unpretentious butcher's shop are left. George Fox, founder of the Quaker movement, was stoned for heresy by local people in this churchyard in 1653. Captain Shaw of the RN is buried just behind the wall in the foreground - he founded the village school in 1830." Photo by Kevin Cooper, 2007.
