Dragons roam here!

  • Description

Made a trip to Brockville to see the (replica) Viking longboat "Draken Harald Hårfagre." The largest Viking ship ever built in modern times. Appropriately, Draken means dragon in english. This is no pretty show boat, its the real deal. The crew of 30 brought her across the Atlantic under sail (and oar). As befitting her norse ancestors she stopped in Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland (the site of the most western confirmed Viking settlement) before coming down the St. Lawrence Seaway into the Great Lakes. What an adventure for her crew. Watching them walk around you can see the bruises to prove what an arduous job it has been. A marvellous example of human engineering and endeavour. One thousand years ago and still to this day.
