Bay Hide, South Walney Nature Reserve

  • Description

"Bay Hide overlooks the pools left by a former gravel quarry. In autumn and winter the pools are used by teal and wigeon, whilst the islands attract roosting redshank and greenshank. In the distance are the large sheds of the shipyard on Barrow Island. Beyond that the prominent fell is Black Combe in the south-west corner of the Lake District National Park. At 1970 feet (600m) high Black Combe stands in isolation, some 10 miles away from any higher ground." Photo by Rob Noble, 2014.
