Description
"Marvellous 16th & 17th century timber-framed house on Sandhill with fine Jacobean interior http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/bessie-surtees-house/ . So-called as merchant's daughter Bessie Surtees eloped with her lover John Scott, later Lord Eldon and Chancellor of England ... through the second storey window above the plaque commemorating the event. To the right of Bessie Surtees House is Millbank House, another grade 1 listed Jacobean house." Photo by Richard Croft, 2011. -
