Wall Mile 37

Description
Gibson's postcard (No.177) of an iconic view of Hadrian's Wall. Taken from Cuddy's Crag, just west of Milecastle 37, it shows Housesteads Plantation with, in the distance, Sewingshields Crags. Was Gibson the originator of this meme? It was published in https://www.flickr.com/photos/internetarchivebookimages/14803787473/in/photolist-oyahg4-owLqLx-odf3Fe-ovVJDr">Mary M Mapes' St Nicholas in 1873. Jessie Mothersole painted an almost identical scene in 1921 and http://www.flickr.com/photos/thearmaturapress/150511447/in/set-72057594141128702/">it has been mimicked ever since. -
