Westerhope Community Association, Hillhead Road

  • Description

"Residents in Westerhope launched a petition in December 2012 to give them more time to come up with a plan to save their community association, which had been targeted as part of Newcastle City Council multi-million-pound spending cuts. The facility, in Hillhead Road, has some 400 members and is used by more than 15 local clubs and groups. Formerly the Miners’ Institute [[3802240]], the facility includes an outdoor bowling green, a sports pavilion, football pitches and even a area for whippet racing." Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2013.
