"The left part of the hotel was built as three houses in the early C18th and is a grade II listed building and occupies a prominent position overlooking the church. National Heritage List for England Entry Number: 1322840 https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1322840 A market was held on Cross Hill here, the result of a charter granted by Bishop Kellawe in 1312, but stopped in 1918. A market-cross is mentioned in 1569 but no trace of it now remains http://www.keystothepast.info/Pages/pgDetail.aspx?PRN=D351 A farmers' market now takes place on the site on the second Sunday of the month."
