"The medieval village of Guyzance is first mentioned in historical accounts in 1242, when it was owned by Robert de Hilton.....By the late 15th century, part of the village was owned by the Prior of Brinkburn and the Abbot of Alnwick. By the 17th century, the village consisted of two rows of houses. The surrounding land was enclosed by 1685..." -
