The Church of St. James and St. Basil, Fenham
-
Description
"The church was designed by Eric Edward Lofting, Assistant Surveyor to the fabric of Westminster Abbey. It is recognised as a masterpiece and among the last great churches of the Arts and Crafts movement in this country; some of the stained glass is by Edward Woore. Funds were raised for the church in the late 1920s, and with the additional generosity of Sir James Knott, whose sons James and Basil had been killed in the First World War, the church, vicarage and parish hall were completed in 1931. The church is Grade II listed - see http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-304548-church-of-st-james-and-st-basil-newcastl. The Knott family history is given at http://www.knott-trust.co.uk/knott-family-history." Photo by Mike Quinn, 2010. -
