Craghead Colliery Band

  • Description

A British-style brass band based in Craghead near Stanley in County Durham. "....The band began as The Sacriston Band or Sacriston Town Band. Records show that it was active in 1905, and competed at Crystal Palace in 1932. ....in 2006 from the Craghead Development Trust, the band moved a few miles up the road to Craghead and took the name from the local colliery which closed in 1969. The original colliery band left the village in 1969 following a sponsorship deal with The Ever Ready Battery company, and became The Ever Ready Band. Subsequently that band became The Reg Vardy Band...."
