The Delaval Obelisk from the footpath to Holywell Dene

  • Description

"Admiral George Delaval after having a Brilliant naval and diplomatic career, bought Seaton Delaval Hall from his impoverished brother and set about a grand plan of improvement, under the architect John Vanbrugh. But he never saw their completion because at the age of 55 in 1723, he fell from his horse and died. The obelisk marks the spot." Photo by Derek Voller, 2015.
