    "This memorial is in the small village of Thornley in the Durham Dales. There are only about 25 homes in the village today. The memorial, all lettering is capitalised: In thanksgiving to God for victory and to the memory of our valiant dead 1914-1918 Captain N F Humphreys Lieutenant J T G Humphreys Lost on Lusitania H St. G Humphreys Sergt-Major A Hutchinson Corporal T Lowson Corporal R E Robinson Private J A Hutchinson Private J H Foster Major R.
