St Helen's Well, Cartington

Description
"This is the site of St Helen's Well. The well and the Chapel of St Ellen nearby http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRN=N2841 were once considered as a holy place on a pilgrims' route from Rothbury. The Chapel foundations are now lost in the forest and the well is contained in a brick-built tank set into the ground with a wooden hut over it http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRN=N2858" Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2009. -
