Newport Bridge

  • Description

"Built in 1934, this structure incorporates over 8000 tons of steel to become England's first vertical lifting bridge. Due to the change of usage upon the river, the mechanism is no longer raised. Constructed by Dorman Long, the same engineers responsible for the Tyne Bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge."
