The Arches

Wallington

  • Description

"Originally intended as a portentious entrance for the courtyard to the main house, this gateway found itself relegated to 'a field' when the arches were discovered to be too narrow for carriages to pass through. On a misty morning they have a ghostly faraway look, here seen from the west end of the Portico House wall." Photo by Stanley Howe, 2013.
