Preston

  • Description

"An attempt has been made to furnish this room as in the 14th century. Reeds or rushes on the floor, a rough wooden bed covered with a mattress of straw, and skins or fur for warmth. The window is narrow and probably glassless as glass was very expensive. It was probably shuttered instead. The window opening is narrow so that if an enemy scaled the walls by ladder it would be too narrow for anyone to gain entry. Remember this building was for defence." Photo by Derek Voller, 2012.
