"The deserted medieval village of Kirkharle existed at least as long ago as 1296. It was located between the Church and the present settlement. An 18th century plan drawn by Capability Brown shows Kirkharle consisting of 13 houses. It was demolished in advance of the creation of Kirkharle Park...." -
