The common view that the dress and moral values of the Edwardian age create an unbridgeable divide between them and us are put to flight by these candid beach scenes. What's astonishing about this travelogue is its matter-of-factness. The dress may be more modest than today's, but the bathers all look very relaxed and the kids seem to be coping fine without the factor 30.
