Monument to Colonel Edward Moseley Perkins
-
Description
"A soft white marble statue of Perkins with his hands on the hilt of his sword. Set upon a yellow stone pedestal including a 2-tier base and rising from 3 steps. Each face of the pedestal is inset with a pink granite tablet. The memorial was paid for by public subscription and unveiled by Isaac Lowthian Bell in front of a large crowd of locals and a detachment from the Durham Rifle Volunteers Burn's obituary lists this statue amongst his works and its naïve style led Pevsner to describe it as the 'funniest monument of County Durham'..." -
