Damaged Rolling Stock

  • Description

Close-up of burned out railway rolling stock, damaged during the Great Timber Yard Fire in Hartlepool, 1923. Reputedly seen as far away as Doncaster, with flames reaching as much as 20 feet high, temperatures in the inferno became so high that these railways lines were buckled and carts completely destroyed. Not a trace of the rolling stock's wooden body remains.
