    " Large house. Now flats. 1798 for Cuthbert Rippon; 1823 additions dated on rainwater heads, for his son Cuthbert Rippon, M.P. for Gateshead; 1875 addition (to house collection of stuffed birds and animals). Sandstone ashlar with plinth; roof not visible. Irregular plan. South elevation: 2-storey, 3-bay main entrance front with adjoining one-storey, 5-bay conservatory link to 2-storey, 3-bay gabled wing on lower ground level. 11 bays in all. Entrance front has steps up to porch with Tuscan order...."
