"Stanhope Castle was built in 1798 on the site of a medieval castle. The house was built for Cuthbert Rippon the MP for Gateshead. It was enlarged in 1875 to accommodate a collection of stuffed birds and minerals. It later became a school. In the 1990s it was divided into a number of used, mainly flats....." -
