    "In common with most settlements in Weardale Daddry Shield has a complex of disused lead mines nearby. This frozen reservoir is one used in mining days as a source of water to supply power used in the process; it seems that it's known locally as Cochran's Dam but is unnamed on OS maps and despite its size, not even marked at the 1:50 000 scale.
