Dr Katherine Lloyd & WEYDA - Young, Religious and Judged

  • Description

Dr Katherine Lloyd is a Research Associate at the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies at Newcastle University. The West End Young Digital Artists (WEYDA) are a group of 11-17 year olds from Newcastle using their digital skills to challenge stereotypes and encourage respect between people from different cultures and religions in the West End of Newcastle. In their joint presentation 'Young, Religious and Judged: Challenging prejudice through co-curating Muslim heritage in North East England' Dr Lloyd looks critically at the 'outreach' traditional approaches to Muslim communities within the heritage sector and explores the alternatives to this. Members of WEYDA share personal reflections on the 'Young, Religious and Judged' project. www.everydaymuslim.org www.twitter.com/everyday_muslim www.facebook.com/everydaymuslimUK
