Miners' Memorial Garden, Herrington Country Park

  • Description

"Herrington Country Park was developed on the site of a former colliery. The colliery, which closed in 1985, had once employed over 5,000 men. The Miners' Memorial Garden provides a reminder of the industry which had once occupied this site. The garden itself is in the spot where the mine shaft had been. The entrance to the garden is flanked by an old pit wheel." Photo by Malc McDonald, 2011, and licensed for reuse under a Creative Commons Licence.
