Mr. James Minor, aged 74, of South Sunniside, and employed as a gardener by Rev. C.E. Adamson at Houghton Rectory. has 10 grandsons serving in H.M. Forces. Pte. W. White, Lifeguards; Pte. J. Patterson, East Yorks; Gunner J. White, R.F.A.; Pte. D. Bennet, R.A.M.C.,; Pte. J. Thompson, 8th Durhams; Gunner G. Bennett, R.F.A.; Pte. N. Minor, N.F.; Pte. H. Bennett, 8th D.L.I.; Pte. R. Patterson, Tyneside Scots; and Gunner T. White, R.F.A. This photograph was published in the Illustrated Chronicle on the 5th of February 1915. During the Great War the Illustrated Chronicle published photographs of soldiers and sailors from Newcastle and the North East of England, which had been in the news. The photographs were sent in by relatives and give us a glimpse into the past. The physical collection held by Newcastle Libraries comprises bound volumes of the newspaper from 1910 to 1925.
