    Name: Thomas Appleton Arrested for: Larceny Arrested at: North Shields Police Station Arrested on: 9 February 1903 Tyne and Wear Archives ref: DX1388-1-13-Thomas Appleton The Shields Daily Gazette for 9 February 1903 reports: "Thomas Appleton, draper's assistant, was charged at North Shields today with stealing two shirts valued 4s, the property of W.H. Mitchell, from a shop in Saville Street. John Gordon, a boy employed at the prosecutor's shop, deposed to seeing defendant take the shirts produced. Mary Clark another assistant also gave evidence. Sergt. Anderson stated that he arrested the defendant in a lodging house. When charged he replied 'I was drunk at the time and didn't know what I was doing'. The bench imposed a fine of 10s, including costs".
