    Name: Robert Robson Arrested for: not given Arrested at: North Shields Police Station Arrested on: 29 May 1906 Tyne and Wear Archives ref: DX1388-1-89-Robert Robson The Shields Daily News for 6 June 1906 reports: “PURSE SNATCHING AT NORTH SHIELDS. Robert Robson (28), a groom belonging to Annfield Plain, was charged on remand at North Shields Police Court yesterday, with having stolen a purse and 8s 8d in money from the person of Isabella Fairweather on the 29th ult. Prosecutrix stated that on Tuesday morning last she was walking along Linskill Terrace when the accused passed her. He mumbled something as he was passing and thinking he was speaking to her she stopped and asked him what he wanted. He then snatched a purse she was carrying in her hand and succeeded in getting it from her. He ran away and witness gave chase. Accused was afterwards caught and given in to custody. A young man named Robert Brown said he joined in the chase and eventually caught the accused after a long run. Accused had the purse in his possession and witness gave him into custody. Accused admitted the theft saying he was going to Newcastle to look for employment and wanted money for his train fare. The magistrates committed him to prison for one month and highly commended the witness Brown for the assistance he had rendered”.
