Isabella Tulloch, a young woman, 8½ Norfolk Street, was charged on remand with having stolen £1, the money of Charles Allison, a seaman, on the 23rd ult. The prosecutor said he met the prisoner in Rudyard Street and accompanied her to the above address and while there he heard something drop on to the floor. The prisoner said he would get a light to see what had dropped and she went out and never returned. Witness afterwards missed a sovereign from his pocket. Detective Radcliffe said that the prosecutor came to the police station and witness accompanied him to 8½ Norfolk Street. There was nobody in at that time but witness went back at 12.15 and found the prisoner in the house with a man. She said she had not been in the house at 8pm but when brought face to face with the prosecutor she admitted that she had been in the house with him. Prisoner emphatically denied the offence. She admitted that went to get a light but when she returned the prosecutor had gone. The Mayor said the evidence of the prosecutor was very unsatisfactory and the case would be dismissed”.
