St Cuthbert's Seminary
-
Description
St Cuthbert's Seminary is in Ushaw Moor, about four and a half miles north-west of Durham. Since its foundation in 1808 it had been the Catholic seminary for the north of England, and it was a direct descendent of Douai College founded by Cardinal Allen in 1568. In June 2011 the seminary closed. The main building, shown here was begun in 1804 and to a design by James Taylor. My sermon for today's feast of St Cuthbert can be read http://lawrenceop.tumblr.com/post/96613042874/homily-for-st-cuthbert-of-lindisfarne-1-cor" >here. -
