DICKENS MURAL IN THE MORRITT ARMS HOTEL

  • Description

The mural was painted in 1946 and I have been popping-in to admire it for forty years or so. Its the work of Northumberland lad Jack Gilroy famous for his advertising posters for the Guinness Brewery. Charles Dickens stayed in this hotel (or its predecessor) while researching his third novel: Nicholas Nickleby first published in installments in 1839.
