076-04 Witton Park Station
-
Description
The Stockton & Darlington Railway was largely responsible for the development of such a sizeable mining community. The line here survived for freight traffic mainly the Blue Circle cement works at Eastgate in the Wear Valley, but even when this picture was taken in 1980 the Crook and Esh Winning branch had long since closed. Witton Park station was closed too, the platform overgrown, although the impressive building was still in use for some new purpose. -
